The Malaysian government announced in late December that it had approved the launch of a new search to find the plane mysteriously disappeared ten years ago.

On 13 December, the government "accepted in principle the proposal of Ocean Infinity" to continue investigations "in a new area estimated at 15,000 square kilometres in the southern Indian Ocean", said Minister Loke.
