My depressed girlfriend

Post by Caudwell »

Hello,

I used to date that girl, her name was Marrissa.
We went together for like 2 years. It was very difficult because she was suffering from severe depression.
She was so sensible and so trigerred by everything in her life that after a while I just couldn't handle it anymore. I had to tell her we had to break.

I feel like hating myself for telling her we had to stop, I can't have a clear conscience thinking maybe if I gave her more energy and more attention I could have finally help her cure.

Anyone else went through something similar ?

Thanks
Life is much more than depression

Hey man welcome to Datingdepressive.

No you can't blame yourself for what happened with Marissa.
It sounds like you’ve been going through a tough situation. Supporting someone who experiences depression can be challenging, especially if they are sensitive to their surroundings and reactions. You also have to care about yourself, and it looks like her mental health problems were bringing you too low.
Don't beat yourself over this.

From my experience dating depressed people, I wrote this :

Open Communication: Encourage your girlfriend to share her feelings with you. Listen without judgment and validate her emotions.

Educate Yourself: Learn more about depression to better understand what she might be going through. This can help you be more empathetic and patient.

Encourage Professional Help: If she's not already seeing a therapist or counselor, gently suggest that seeking professional help can be beneficial.

Set Boundaries: While supporting her, it's important to take care of yourself too. Setting boundaries can help you maintain your own mental health.

Small Gestures: Sometimes, small, thoughtful gestures can provide comfort. Simple acts of kindness can show that you care without overwhelming her.

Find Activities Together: Engage in activities that might uplift her mood, like going for a walk, watching a funny movie, or practicing mindfulness together.

It’s important to remember that you’re not responsible for her feelings, and taking care of yourself is equally vital. If you find it difficult to navigate, consider talking to a professional about your own feelings and experiences.

Hope this helps
